Aid to education

In Sweden, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) are responsible for managing international development cooperation.

Sweden supports GPE priority areas of:

  • Girls’ education
  • Countries affected by fragility and conflict
  • Inclusive education.

In 2015, the top three recipients of bilateral aid to basic education were: Bangladesh, Liberia, and Uganda.

Sweden is the Board representative of the Donor 2 constituency on the GPE Board. Denmark is also part of this constituency.

Sweden sits on the Strategy and Impact Committee.
