In 2017, the European Commission launched the “European Consensus on Development”, a shared vision and framework for action for development cooperation for the European Union (EU) and its member states. This blueprint reiterates the EU’s commitment to education for all as a prerequisite for youth employability and long-lasting development.

In 2016, the European Commission announced that it will increase its contribution to education in emergencies in 2017 to 6% of its humanitarian aid budget. The increase amounts to a six-fold increase since 2014.
