For the Government of Nicaragua, investing in early childhood education is a high priority. It presents an ideal window of opportunity to better prepare children for primary school and help them to learn more and better. GPE currently supports Nicaragua with a US$16.7 million grant that, together with external and national funding, has already achieved remarkable results in improving access to quality preschool education in the country.
In December 2012, when Zinah was 9, a tornado devastated her village. The school, with two classrooms built by the parents, was destroyed. From that point on, Zinah studied along with others children in an old protestant church turned into a school. Today, a new school stands in the village, and Zinah can continue to learn.
