In Kenya, More Opportunities for Marginalized Children to Go to School

In Kenya, these young students in their red and white school uniforms have the opportunity to go to primary school. But more than 1 million Kenyan children are left out of school (UIS, 2009), often because they are too poor, too far from a school, or disabled.

Last December, the Board of Directors of the Global Partnership for Education approved a new grant of US$88.4 million for Kenya, which will help the country to reach the most marginalized children in rural and nomadic communities.

The grant will also focus on better management and accountability in schools, and will support policies that favor equity and quality of education.
